. Eté 2006, commentaire de Gwenn
S. Lavoie sur son séjour en Dordogne. (en
anglais)
This summer, I had the pleasure and privilege of
participating in a
language and culture immersion program offered by the Association
Perigord Linguistique et Culturel in Perigueux, France. From beginning
to end, it was a marvelous experience! I have been a French language
professor in the United States for 37 years so I feel well-qualified
to assess the effectiveness of a language program. This program
was excellent. My professor, understanding my advanced level and
professional objectives, tailored her lessons perfectly to my needs.
Each day was a chance not only to learn about the political and
social landscape of France today but also to enjoy watching a true
professional at work! I expanded my vocabulary and knowledge of
21st century France and things French and had a great time doing
it!
Afternoons were spent making cultural and historical visits in Perigueux
and in the magnificent countryside nearby. In two weeks, I only
scratched the surface of what the area offers.
If all of this sounds perfect, it was, but the home stay portion
of the
program was equally valuable. The Association Perigord found just
the right host "family" for me-- a wonderful, intelligent
and welcoming woman who will remain forever a friend. She opened
her home to me, spent hours each day speaking with me and teaching
me the history and culture of the region, and prepared many of the
local specialities for me to enjoy at mealtime. It was an enjoyable
and educational experience in every way.
My "mini-sabbatical" was a huge success!
